Testing screencast tools

I tried:

I’ve just chosen Byzanz: in my opinion it’s the closest one to the KISS principle and creating animated GIFs makes its output usable even on outdated OSes.

    I’d like to know why Istanbul did not fulfil your requirements. I think its output in the free OGG Theora format is far more better than GIF. I’m not 100% happy with it, but it works.

    Istanbul is very good too and it would be my choice for a GNU/Linux audience but I was concerned about:
    1 - outdated OSes (they were shipped without an OGG player),
    2 - non-Unix-like OSes (viewing OGG files could be a problem there)
