The Nick Drake Song Collection

After some trouble, I’ve finally got The Nick Drake Song Collection. I still haven’t read it to the end so I don’t know if it contains some transcriptions of the home recordings that, some years ago, I was so lucky to find, hear and save from a website before their disappearance (the Internet was wilder during those days)… obviously I am not talking about Time Of No Reply.

I’ve heard that the sheet music is not always trustworthy but I don’t play the guitar or the piano.

Nick Drake and Jorge Luis Borges are the only two people that come to mind that have made me think I should learn something I still don’t know (I don’t play an instrument and I don’t speak Castilian… life is so short).

Reading his lyrics once again makes me hear his voice, or the memory of it that I have. As Robert Kirby has written in the Preface:

(lyrics and music) are comprehensively complementary and inextricably interwoven

Music, words, meaning and feeling touch your soul as a whole.

Many years ago, when I listened to his songs for the first time, I remember thinking:

I don’t like this album… this album is me.

Let me stop there.
