I wrote a simple plugin for DokuWiki that, writing [DIL] on a page, lets you see displayed the Daily Dilbert.
The current version is 0.5 and you can download it here.
It uses the DilbertDailyStrip RSS feed and SimpleXML.
ChangeLog:
- Version 0.5: now it uses DokuHTTPClient instead of CURL, removing a dependence and handling the proxy settings automatically;
- Version 0.4: now it uses SimpleXML and CURL;
- Version 0.3: fixed a small security weakness (credits to Andy Webber);
- Version 0.2: it does not use anymore NuSOAP but the PHP5 SOAP extension and it can read the optional proxy configuration of DokuWiki (without having to duplicate it internally);
- Version 0.1: it is based on a snippet written by Alessandro Battezzati (the snippet itself is also based on http://shupe-website.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/myAdmin/test/dilbert.php that uses NuSOAP through the DailyDilbert Web Service). The
syntax.php file is shipped with $proxyhost, $proxyport set as your server was behind a proxy: void them if you don’t have a proxy. With small changes, this plugin can be used for generic SOAP client operations as well (change tempuri.org with your own namespace).

- What fascinates me? A good answer is “The Antalya Province that I’m planning to visit next month”. What keeps me busy at the moment is a strange mix of private patches against DokuWiki, Joomla and WordPress. :)

- It is sad to say but there are many people that I would like to meet or meet again who have passed away.
- What was your favorite subject in school and why?
- I remember that when I was twelve my favourite subject was history… I don’t know why but, many years later, I got a degree in Computer Engineering. :)

Va bene tentare di mantenere un blog originale ma, contro le truffe, si può anche fare un’eccezione. Essendo arrivata ad un cliente, per posta ordinaria, una lettera molto simile a questa, posso ripetere anche io di NON abboccare allo scam del “Department of Adjudication”. :)

Non ricordo la volta scorsa ma quest’anno ho faticato a capire cosa si dovesse inserire nel Rif. B1 della Comunicazione Annuale Obbligatoria Inarcassa: dopo una telefonata e un ragionamento credo di averlo capito e, per questo motivo, riporto qui la spiegazione, come nota personale che eventualmente potrà servire a qualche collega.
La guida alla compilazione, relativamente al Rif. B1, spiega che
Deve essere trascritto il volume di affari prodotto nel 2006 e dichiarato ai fini dell’IVA nell’anno 2007 (rigo VE40, ovvero rigo VB1 per i contribuenti minimi) sottratto il contributo integrativo assoggettato ad IVA nel corso del 2006, ai sensi della L. n. 85/95 (ad esempio: se il volume di affari è di € 5.100,00 ed il contributo integrativo assoggettato ad IVA è di € 100,00 va indicato € 5.000,00).
Non capivo dove sarei dovuto andare a leggere il contributo da sottrarre: è la somma dei vari 2% sulle parcelle relativi alla cassa, quindi
Rif. B1 = (100 * VE40) / 102.
Ho appena scritto sul distacco storico e, forse per dar forza al post precedente :), guardo ora la fotografia che Cristiano ci propone: vedo un estintore e una pistola: un ipotetico convegno “La pistola come strumento di pace”, con un titolo simmetricamente provocatorio, organizzato dallo schieramento opposto ma nello stesso luogo, quanti post nei blog avrebbe generato? Ecco, appunto.

Le recenti discussioni pubbliche sul bicentenario della nascita di Garibaldi, unite ad alcuni miei pensieri ricorrenti sulla seconda guerra mondiale, mi han portato a chiedermi se
possiamo empiricamente identificare un periodo, il trascorrere del quale possa costituire una condizione solitamente necessaria, non certo sufficiente, per sperare di poter trattare alcuni passi della storia italiana con un minimo di imparzialità?
La condizione necessaria temo sia la morte di tutti i testimoni indiretti di un dato fatto, cosa che pone questo periodo a non meno di centocinquanta anni… quindi no, non saremmo ancora pronti per discutere come vorrei di Garibaldi.

Negli ultimi tempi ho ricevuto più richieste di essere aggiunti al planet di ILS che mail della lista dei soci di ILS (due addirittura mi han scritto chiedendomi cosa fare per iscriversi a ILS, dato che volevano essere inseriti nel planet!). Esonerandomi dal trascrivere qualche mia riflessione su questo tema, è comunque chiaro che il planet abbia successo ed è credo una piccola cosa buona per ILS: vorrei quindi chiedere a tutti i lettori del planet di inserire, da qualche parte sul proprio blog, un link al nostro aggregatore di feed.
This informal grammar book was not written for Non-native English Speakers: the usual readers are Americans who want to enhance both their spoken and written English and their vocabulary with everyday words and specialist terminology.
I had never noticed that a large number of English words have Latin roots: this is probably due to the reason that I don’t have to learn them but for an English Speaker their meanings are not so obvious. For me, using words with Latin roots defines a different problem: to recognise when their use is not common. For example, writing to a British friend (who is kind enough to correct my sentences) I described a story as “didactic”: he told me that “enlightening” is closer to the everyday vocabulary of the average citizen so it is an adjective to prefer… unless “you want to be a columnist of The Times”. :)
All in all, although I have started reading this book picking pages at random, it still seems to be able to suggest hints for an effective communication.

Are there numbers that can’t be said?
My first answer was: “yes, a number with so many digits in a given base that a whole life can’t be enough to say it”.
I started trying to find an answer to this question thinking back to the old short story “The Nine Billion Names of God” written by Arthur C. Clarke.
Do you know another element of that set of numbers? A not trivial example would be appreciated. :)
