Ieri una mail di Bernardini mi avvisava che:
Sabato 26 gennaio 2008 (…) si terrà (…) un seminario di lavoro, per preparare il 2° Convegno su “Energia e ambiente” che Radicali Italiani ha in programma di organizzare entro la prossima primavera.
Non potrò partecipare ma un paio di spunti provo a scriverli (il secondo potrebbe magari iniziare il lungo cammino di una proposta legislativa).
Premessa
Un pianeta:
- la cui economia, idealmente in perenne crescita, si basa principalmente su fonti energetiche non rinnovabili;
- la cui popolazione è in aumento costante;
- le cui risorse minerarie sono limitate.
Pur sapendo da millenni che πάντα ρεῖ, rifiutiamo di pensare ai punti precedenti nel loro insieme e, se lo facciamo, non vogliamo vederne la contraddizione. Sebbene gli studi per una economia stazionaria siano iniziati oltre trent’anni fa, nella nostra epoca l’idea è purtroppo ancora impresentabile. Attendendo, possiamo agire come progettisti, politici, imprenditori e cittadini.
La rete è colma di idee che si possono seguire per ritardare il collasso: voglio limitarmi a presentare tre suggerimenti non completamente banali che potrebbero forse contribuire alla fermezza della verità del 2008: se ogni lettore scegliesse di applicarne anche solo uno, penso che ne sarebbe già valsa la pena descriverli.
Alimentazione
A meno della vitamina B12 (eventualmente integrabile in quantità e con frequenze estremamente basse) è possibile vivere con una dieta vegana: a differenza dell’attuale, il sistema agro-alimentare derivante sarebbe vicino alla sostenibilità ma i suoi positivi effetti verrebbero presto annullati se non si agisse anche con una dieta locavora, definendo quindi un’alimentazione locavoro/vegana.
Morte
Da anni sono iscritto all’AIDO e alla SoCrem: a differenza del suggerimento precedente, su questo punto sono già preparato. Donazione degli organi e cremazione sono un caso particolare di riuso e smaltimento. Un cadavere, privato degli organi donabili (riuso) è sostanzialmente uno scarto, i cui trattamenti previsti dalla legge non sono a caso diversi da quelli dei rifiuti: l’inumazione (discarica) o la cremazione (incenerimento). La cremazione è certo da preferire: non sottrae terra aggiungendo impianti. Dallo smaltimento, inumazione o cremazione, dovremmo passare anche qui al riciclaggio agricolo, magari legalizzando la liofilizzazione, come si è incominciato a fare in Svezia o, restando nella cremazione, riprendendo parte del calore disperso, come nelle prime esperienze provenienti dal Regno Unito.
I don’t know why but only few {third-part} Joomla! developers use patTemplate variables: this library is available in both Joomla! 1.0.x/1.5.x so I really don’t understand why it’s not widely used (I didn’t use it in my early components but I’ve definitely started using it). A simple example is available on their website. If I’m not wrong, even Joseph LeBlanc didn’t write about it in his book (which I’ve previously described).
A few days ago I was wondering what life would be like without electricity: no hot water in the morning (using a traditionally controlled boiler, of course) and no light after sunset either. I know that it’s not so rational but one of my concerns at first blush was that I would never be able to listen to Nick’s voice any more.

I’m trying to visualize the real last night on our planet: of course it will probably not be a night like the ones we usually think about but it’s fun to describe it in this way.
Referring to one of the theories of physical cosmology that studies the ultimate fate of the universe, the sun will turn itself into a black dwarf, which is a huge diamond but to have a last night, we need to have a last day first: because we can’t call the endless darkness of a black dwarf solar system “night”, can we?
Life forms, water, atmosphere and the things we describe as commodities would have already gone billions of years before so nobody will be there to see the really last night but the idea of a sun finally ceasing to shine suggests to me the way we’ll again have a wordless world.

- Alice e Roberto nascono;
- trascorrono ciascuno la propria adolescenza senza masturbarsi nemmeno una volta, senza guardare film/riviste/siti porno e senza mai pensare a fare sesso, se non al fine di avere dei figli da consacrare al loro dio;
- in qualche modo si conoscono e decidono di sposarsi: sono ovviamente entrambi vergini;
- si sposano e iniziano ad avere rapporti sessuali non protetti… di un solo tipo, al solo e unico fine di procreare (e senza mai abortire, ci mancherebbe);
- Alice e Roberto hanno la fortuna di essere sani e fertili e, in condizioni simili, Alice resta incinta ogni due anni circa;
- Alice e Roberto hanno un tenore di vita stabile e un numero di figli che, a meno di cause naturali come la morte di Alice o di uno dei nascituri, aumenta ogni due anni: la famiglia si impoverisce ma continua a vivere nella fede e nell’amore;
- (facoltativo) Alice muore dopo molti anni, con il corpo consumato dalle gravidanze;
Non conosco nessuna persona che possa dire di aver vissuto la propria vita secondo tutti i primi sei punti che ho elencato: eppure milioni di persone che non hanno vissuto una vita secondo queste regole, continuano a sostenere economicamente e politicamente gli ostensori di un modello simile.

The reason is
Python appeared to have the largest increase in ratings in one year time (…) Chances are high that Python’s star will rise further in 2008, thanks to the upcoming release of Python 3.
Unfortunately I don’t have enough time to follow its development and I think I’m missing many features of such a contemporary programming language. Still, I think that PHP is underused as a CLI glue at system level.
I’ve just released Hash’em all: a Bash script which substitutes recursively the content of the files of a folder with their own sha1sum (changing it to compute a different chechsum is pretty trivial of course). It is a modified version of the already hacked script written by Kaz Kylheku.
As Kaz wrote in 2000:
What is nice about this is that you can embed the function into your shell script. The function changes the current working directory as it descends. So it can handle arbitrarily deep paths. Whereas paths generated by the find command can cause a problem when they get too long; the kernel has a hard limit on the length of the string passed to the open() and other system calls.
It uses sponge from the lovely moreutils tools… and no, the name of the script is not a tribute to the well known trash metal album. :)
