No, I’m not writing about the well known song.
I’m trying to visualize the real last night on our planet: of course it will probably not be a night like the ones we usually think about but it’s fun to describe it in this way.
Referring to one of the theories of physical cosmology that studies the ultimate fate of the universe, the sun will turn itself into a black dwarf, which is a huge diamond but to have a last night, we need to have a last day first: because we can’t call the endless darkness of a black dwarf solar system “night”, can we?
Life forms, water, atmosphere and the things we describe as commodities would have already gone billions of years before so nobody will be there to see the really last night but the idea of a sun finally ceasing to shine suggests to me the way we’ll again have a wordless world.
