Having registered this website on the Blog Action Day, I’ll try to write here some notes about climate change.
On their website, it’s stated that
(Climate change) threatens to cause famine, flooding, war, and millions of refugees.
Even though it is undoubtedly true, I’m still persuaded that it’s only a consequence of the deep faith a large part of humanity has in unlimited growth.
It’s sad but there are people truly concerned with climate change who think “let’s fix it so we could quietly continue to grow as usual”… they really miss the point: holding this old paradigm leads us to problems harder than climate change itself. We would have to move on even if this problem didn’t exist. Unfortunately, the revolution needed to make such a transformation possible is very hard to realize, therefore it is very unlikely we would be able to avoid several hundred million deaths in the following decades.
Although the internet has plenty of good suggestions to follow, I can’t give you a hint for some real actions to avoid this scenario: just don’t forget what Prof. Edsger Wybe Dijkstra once said:
Do only what only you can do.
